Nigeria 0–0 Niger (4–3 on pens): Flying Eagles advance to final of Wafu B U20 Boys Cup
Published: July 20, 2025
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have advanced to the final of the WWafu B U20 Boys Cup after edging out Niger Republic 4-3 on penalties following a goalless draw in regulation time.
Nigeria dominated possession early on but struggle to convert their advantage into goals.
The first half featured few clear-cut chances, with Divine Oliseh missing a golden opportunity in the 30th minute after a brilliant solo run from Nigeria’s half.
Niger almost capitalized on a defensive lapse in the 24th minute, but Flying Eagles goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt made a crucial save to keep the scores level.
Muhammed Abdullahi also came close for Nigeria in the 33rd minute, but the Nigerien defense held firm under pressure.
After a goalless first half, Nigeria continued their search for a breakthrough in the second, pressing high and dominating possession.
However, Niger Republic remained resolute, frustrating the Flying Eagles with disciplined defending.
In the closing stages of the match, Oliseh had another chance to break the deadlock, but his shot from the edge of the box went narrowly wide.
With neither side able to find the back of the net after 90 minutes, the match was decided by penalties.
Goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt emerged as the hero of the shootout, making a key save to help Nigeria clinch a 4-3 victory from the spot and book their place in the final.
Harcourt was later named Player of the Match for his penalty heroics, sealing a memorable performance for the young shot-stopper and the Flying Eagles.
Nigeria will now face the winner of the second semifinal between Ghana and Ivory Coast in the WAFU Zone B final, as they aim to lift the regional trophy.
