'No place like home' – Chelsea centre-back Tosin drops cryptic post amid Nigeria interest
Published: August 01, 2025
Chelsea centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo has stirred speculation about a potential international switch to Nigeria after posting a cryptic message on social media during his first-ever visit to the country.
The 2025 Fifa Club World Cup winner wrote on X: "The love was real. The welcome was deep. Nigeria — thank you for embracing me. There’s truly no place like home."
The message, which has since gone viral among Nigerian football fans, has reignited conversations around the 27-year-old’s international future.
Born in London to Nigerian parents, Tosin has represented England at youth levels but remains eligible to play for the Super Eagles.
His visit to Lagos followed Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final on July 13.
While in Nigeria, he launched the inaugural Tosin Adarabioyo Youth Cup in collaboration with the Lagos State Football Association.
The grassroots tournament, held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, ended with Team Lagos defeating 36 Lion FC 1-0 in the final.
Tosin also met with Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Oba of Lagos, strengthening his cultural connection to the country.
His contribution to football development and global representation earned him the African Illustrious Award in Lekki, where he was honoured as the first Nigerian to win the revamped Club World Cup.
In an interview with Arise News, he reflected on the emotional trip: “As soon as you step off the plane, you feel that calmness, that you’re at home.”
With his growing connection to Nigeria, Tosin’s message has fuelled hopes of a potential Super Eagles debut.
