Super Eagles forward Ejuke suffers injury after playing on unsafe pitches during off-season

Super Eagles forward Chidera Ejuke has suffered an injury and will miss Sevilla's pre-season friendly match against Olympique de Marseille despite travelling with the squad to France.

Ejuke, who joined the La Liga club last summer, suffered a myofascial injury to the adductor longus of his right thigh within a few weeks to the start of the 2025/2026 campaign.

The Nigerian International will miss the friendly match against the Ligue 1 side and is awaiting further evaluation before rejoining the squad.

Ejuke's off-season behaviour during his vacation sparked concern at Sevilla as the forward, despite prior warnings, featured in high-intensity informal matches on unsafe clay pitches in Nigeria.

It was claimed that the former Heerenveen star ignored medical and contractual advice.

The 27-year-old, despite an exciting start to the 2024/2025 season, had an underwhelming campaign due to inconsistent performances and injuries.

He scored two goals and provided one assist in 25 league appearances, a return he would hope to improve upon under the guidance of Matías Almeyda.

The injury will be a huge setback for Ejuke as he hopes to rediscover his form and convince the Argentine manager to become a key part of the squad.

While the club awaits further information on the injury, Ejuke will hope to avoid a serious one to enable him to make a quick return to the team before the start of the new La Liga season.
