Birmingham, Ipswich or Middlesbrough? Race for Akpom ends as medical confirms his choice
Published: August 04, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the race for the services of Chuba Akpom is seemingly over, with the Ajax Amsterdam striker choosing to continue his career at Ipswich Town.
The Tractor Boys and Ajax have reached a club-to-club agreement for the signing of the Super Eagles hopeful.
Akpom has been scheduled to undergo a medical at Ipswich Town on Monday ahead of his unveiling.
Ipswich Town, Middlesbrough and Birmingham City were the three teams in the EFL Championship vying for the signature of the 29-year-old.
Middlesbrough, where Akpom previously enjoyed a prolific spell in the 2022-2023 season, made a late push to lure the forward back to the Riverside Stadium but were unsuccessful.
The Arsenal academy graduate is set to join Ipswich Town on loan for the entirety of the 2025-2026 campaign.
The Tractor Boys have an obligation to buy Akpom at the end of the season if they secure promotion to the Premier League.
A former winner of the Championship Golden Boot during his last spell in English football, Akpom’s imminent signing is a major transfer coup for Ipswich Town, who are targeting an immediate return to the Premier League.
Akpom brings a wealth of Championship experience to the table, having made 129 appearances across spells with Middlesbrough, Hull City, Nottingham Forest, and Brighton & Hove Albion.
