CHAN 2024: Three key Falcons of Jediane players Super Eagles must contain in must-win clash

Nigeria’s Super Eagles B face a do-or-die encounter against Sudan’s Falcons of Jediane in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) at Amaan Stadium today.

After a 1-0 loss to Senegal, Nigeria must secure a victory to keep their quarter-final hopes alive. Sudan, coached by Kwesi Appiah, drew 1-1 with Congo in their opener, showcasing resilience and tactical discipline.

Here are three Sudanese players the Super Eagles should watch out for in this must-win Group D match.

Musa Hussein (Midfielder)

Musa Hussein was the standout performer in Sudan’s opener, scoring their only goal against Congo.

His ability to find space in midfield and deliver precise finishes makes him a significant threat.

Despite an injury scare in the first match, Hussein has reportedly recovered and is likely to feature.

His vision and composure under pressure could exploit Nigeria’s midfield lapses seen against Senegal.

The Super Eagles must mark him tightly to prevent him from dictating play or making dangerous runs.

Ali Abdalla (Forward)

Sudan’s primary attacking outlet, Ali Abdalla, is a pacey striker who thrives on counterattacks.

Appiah’s compact 4-5-1 formation relies on Abdalla’s ability to break quickly and capitalize on defensive errors. Nigeria’s backline, particularly Leonard Ngenge, must stay disciplined to neutralize Abdalla’s threat on the break.

His movement and clinical finishing could punish any lapse in concentration, especially given Nigeria’s defensive mistake that cost them against Senegal.

Mohamed Saeed (Goalkeeper)

Sudan’s shot-stopper Mohamed Saeed was pivotal in their draw against Congo, making crucial saves to secure a point.

His reflexes and command of the penalty area will challenge Nigeria’s forwards, who struggled to create chances in their opener.

With Sikiru Alimi and Anas Yusuf tasked with breaking Sudan’s defense, Saeed’s performance could be a game-changer. Nigeria must test him early to disrupt his confidence.

With Sudan’s tactical setup designed to frustrate, Nigeria must be aggressive and clinical.

Kick-off is at 6:00 PM WAT, and the Super Eagles need to neutralize these key players to secure a vital win.
