'Victor was top scorer' – Galatasaray striker Icardi says playing with Osimhen will be fun
Published: August 14, 2025
Former Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has expressed his excitement at the prospect of playing alongside Victor Osimhen more frequently this season after the duo’s limited time together on the pitch last year.
Osimhen, who starred on loan at the Yellow-Reds last season before making his move permanent this summer, formed an impressive partnership with Icardi until the Argentine striker suffered a season-ending injury.
Speaking ahead of the clash against Fatih Karagümrük on Friday, Icardi recalled how only a handful of matches saw him and the Nigerian striker feature together.
"Unfortunately, last year, there were only a few matches where we could be on the pitch at the same time as Victor. Those were some very enjoyable moments," Icardi said to Galatasaray's official website.
"However, we didn't get to enjoy the entire year. But the most important thing was always to win the championship and the trophy. We want to continue this year."
Icardi praised Osimhen’s individual brilliance, noting the 26-year-old’s achievement as the league’s top scorer last season, but stressed that the team’s collective success remains the ultimate goal.
"Besides Victor and I, there are many players who have been performing very well in training and want to get playing time.
"We will win together. We will all win together. Also, Victor was the top scorer last season. We will play together again this year. It will be a lot of fun,” he added.
Icardi is determined to regain full fitness, link up with Victor Osimhen, and bolster Galatasaray’s push for success in both domestic and European competitions.
