Fabrizio Romano: Arsenal eye Lookman as possible replacement if Trossard leaves this summer

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman could emerge as a potential target for Arsenal before the close of the summer transfer window.

Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, confirmed that Inter Milan’s long pursuit of the Atalanta star has collapsed after their €45 million bid was rejected.

Atalanta are reportedly holding out for a higher fee, bringing negotiations to an end.

"Long negotiation between Inter and Lookman comes to an end. No agreement between Inter and Atalanta," Romano explained.

"Inter had a bid rejected for 45 million euros at the end of July. Atalanta say no they want more than that.

"So at the moment Inter and Lookman is over. Still two weeks to go but at the moment it is over."

With Inter now out of the race, Romano noted that several Premier League clubs are closely monitoring the situation.

"Now there could be new waves on the market. Keep an eye on the Premier League. Because Premier League clubs are aware of the situation.

"The CEO of Atalanta, Percassi was in England in the last weeks to negotiate for Rodrigo Muniz but at the moment Muniz is not leaving Fulham,” Romano added.

He revealed that Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi’s recent visit to England for transfer dealings could open the door for Lookman’s representatives to redirect their focus toward potential suitors in the Premier League.

"But also for the situation of Ademola Lookman to try to find a different club for Lookman because they were not able to reach an agreement with Inter for the Nigerian striker."

While emphasizing that Arsenal are satisfied with their current squad, Romano suggested that the Gunners might consider a move for Lookman if Leandro Trossard were to leave before the window shuts.

"Lookman could be an option for the English clubs. For example, the agent of Lookman always gave priority to Inter.

"But now with Inter no longer in the race, Premier League clubs could be attentive. Let's see what happens at Arsenal.

"Arsenal are very happy with the squad they have right now up front, in terms of age Lookman is not probably the profile that Arsenal usually sign but maybe if Trossard decides to leave in the final weeks that could be an opportunity,” Romano said.

Lookman, who has been a standout performer since arriving at Atalanta in 2022, has made no secret of his desire to pursue a new challenge this summer.

With just two weeks left before the transfer window closes, the Nigerian international will be hoping to secure a big move that could further cement his reputation as one of Europe’s top attacking talents.
