Borussia Dortmund set to open direct talks with Chelsea for Chukwuemeka permanent deal
Published: August 22, 2025
Borussia Dortmund are preparing to step up their pursuit of Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, with direct talks scheduled between the two clubs on Friday as negotiations intensify over a permanent deal.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Dortmund are pushing to secure both Chukwuemeka and Argentine defender Aaron Anselmino, but the 21-year-old midfielder is viewed as a priority.
Chelsea have made it clear they will only consider a permanent transfer for Chukwuemeka, having rejected loan proposals with purchase obligations earlier in the window.
Borussia Dortmund are ready to sign Chukwuemeka on a permanent deal worth €20 million, including add-ons and a sell-on clause.
Chukwuemeka, who joined Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2022, has struggled to establish himself at Stamford Bridge.
A combination of persistent injuries and fierce competition in the midfield ranks has limited his opportunities, leaving him frustrated with a lack of consistent minutes in the Premier League.
The midfielder has expressed a strong desire to return to Germany, where he previously played during a loan spell in the Bundesliga in the second half of last season.
Dortmund are eager to bring him back to the club as they look to strengthen their options ahead of a demanding campaign.
Talks on Friday are expected to be decisive as both clubs work toward an agreement that could see Chukwuemeka return to the Bundesliga on a long-term basis.
