2026 WC: Chelsea defender Tosin named in England starting XI based on league ratings
Published: September 03, 2025
If England manager Thomas Tuchel were to select his World Cup squad based on league ratings this season, Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo would make the starting XI for the 2026 tournament, according to football statistics website Whoscored.
The centre-back has impressed early in the campaign, earning an average rating of 7.49 across two Premier League appearances.
He scored 7.04 in Chelsea's emphatic 5-1 away victory over West Ham United on matchday two and followed up with a rating of 7.94 in his final outing before the first international break of the 2025-2026 season.
Tosin missed Chelsea's opening fixture against Crystal Palace due to a minor injury but has since underlined his form, staking a strong claim for consideration in Tuchel's plans ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
In the ceremonial starting lineup, Tosin partners Chelsea teammate Trevoh Chalobah at the heart of defence, flanked by Ainsley Maitland-Niles and James Garner in the fullback positions.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall anchors the midfield alongside Tyler Morton and Marcus Tavernier, while the attacking trio comprises Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane, and in-form Everton star Jack Grealish.
Tosin, who has represented England at U16, U17, U18, and U19 levels, is yet to make his Three Lions debut.
His international future remains uncertain, with both the Nigeria Football Federation and manager Eric Chelle closely monitoring developments.
Born in London to a father from Lagos State and a mother from Ekiti, the 27-year-old faces a crucial decision regarding his allegiance before the 2026 World Cup.
