'I know' – Rwanda coach claims some Nigerians are working against Eric Chelle

Rwanda coach Adel Amrouche has thrown his weight behind Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle, urging Nigerians to remain patient and supportive despite ongoing criticism over the team’s qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria edged Rwanda 1-0 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday evening, with substitute Tolu Arokodare scoring the decisive goal early in the second half.

The victory lifted the Super Eagles to 10 points, moving them above Amavubi into third place in Group C.

However, Chelle’s side remain six points adrift of group leaders South Africa, who currently occupy the automatic qualification spot.

The gap has fueled growing uncertainty over Nigeria’s chances of making it to the global showpiece in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Amid the scrutiny, Amrouche, during his post-match conference called for calm and unity around Chelle.

“Your coach? Eric is a good coach. I know some people may be against him. But he's starting to do his job. Don't be negative. You must respect your coach,” the Rwandan tactician said.

The Super Eagles will have an opportunity to close the gap and strengthen their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup when they face South Africa on Tuesday evening.

In the meantime, coach Eric Chelle is expected to concentrate on refining his tactical setup to give Nigeria the best chance of securing a crucial away victory.
