Euro clubs to watch Flying Eagles duo Nasiru and Maigana at 2025 Fifa U20 World Cup
Published: September 14, 2025
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Salihu Nasiru and Tahir Maigana have been named in Nigeria's final squad for the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile.
Both players were part of the Flying Eagles contingent that departed Abuja for South America on Sunday.
Nasiru, an attacking midfielder, plies his trade with Azerbaijani Premier League side FK Gabala, having joined the club in the summer from El-Kanemi Warriors.
His creativity and technical ability in midfield have earned him a call-up to the global tournament.
Seventeen-year-old Maigana, who represents Abuja-based Wireless Academy, has also made the cut.
The right winger featured in all six matches at the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Egypt, helping Nigeria qualify for the World Cup.
A left-footed wide man who prefers to operate from the right flank, he has already drawn comparisons with Arsenal and England star Bukayo Saka.
Scouts from Portugal, Germany and Belgium are expected to closely monitor both players during the tournament, with potential transfer opportunities likely if they impress on the big stage.
In a setback for the squad, highly rated full-back Adamu Maigari has been ruled out of the World Cup after sustaining an injury in training before the team's departure.
Maigari, who has attracted concrete interest from a Swiss Super League club, is understood to be close to sealing a move despite the disappointment.
The Flying Eagles will begin their World Cup campaign against Norway on September 29, before taking on Saudi Arabia on October 2 and Colombia on October 5 in the group stage.
