Liverpool midfielder beats Iwobi to Premier League POTW as Fulham star's ranking is revealed
Published: September 23, 2025
Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has been recognised among the Premier League’s best performers in Matchweek 5, finishing sixth in the official Player of the Matchweek fan poll.
The Nigerian international earned six per cent of the total votes after registering a goal and an assist in Fulham’s 3-1 victory over Brentford last weekend.
His contribution proved decisive in securing the London derby win, further underlining his growing influence in Marco Silva’s team.
Despite not clinching the top honour, Iwobi’s inclusion in the eight-man shortlist reflects the impact of his display and the consistency he has shown this season.
Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch ultimately secured the award with 31 per cent of the vote, thanks to his goal and assist in the Merseyside derby win over Everton.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes came second with 20 per cent, while Anton Stach, Jeremy Doku, Nordi Mukiele, Martin Dubravka and Tyrick Mitchell rounded out the list of nominees.
For Iwobi, the ranking is a timely recognition of his hard work in midfield.
At 29, he continues to demonstrate maturity, composure, and tactical intelligence, seamlessly linking play between defence and attack.
His energy, pressing, and creativity have been vital for Fulham as they aim to secure a strong position in the Premier League table.
The nomination also highlights Iwobi’s importance beyond club football, with Nigeria preparing for crucial World Cup qualifiers in October.
His ability to adapt across multiple midfield roles makes him one of the most dependable options for both Silva and Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.
