'An MRI scan is scheduled for Monday' - Werder Bremen provide medical update on Felix Agu

Felix Agu could be facing a spell on the sidelines after sustaining an ankle injury in his side's 1-0 home win over FC St. Pauli.

The 26-year-old was substituted shortly before halftime after Pauli striker Martijn Kaars fell awkwardly on his ankle during a defensive challenge.

Agu, who was recently called up to the Nigerian national team, left the stadium on crutches with his ankle heavily bandaged.

Although he did not require an ambulance, Werder confirmed that a precise diagnosis is still pending.

"Felix Agu, however, is still awaiting medical results. The Nigerian international threw himself into Martijn Kaars's shot attempt towards the end of the first half," the River Islanders posted on their official website.

"The St. Pauli player fell awkwardly on Agu's left ankle, and he subsequently had to be substituted. An MRI scan is scheduled for Monday."

The full-back's absence would be a setback for Bremen, as Agu has been a consistent presence on the right flank since returning from a previous injury.

Werder officials are now waiting for medical assessments to determine the extent of the damage.

Meanwhile, the club hopes the upcoming international break will allow Agu time to recover.

Agu could not make his competitive debut for the Super Eagles during the September internationals against Rwanda and South Africa.

Had he featured in either match, the defender would have been officially cap-tied to Nigeria, thereby ending any prospect of representing his country of birth, Germany.
