Super Eagles camp update: Porto's Zaidu and Sevilla's Akor Adams report for international duty

The Super Eagles' preparations for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers received a timely boost on Wednesday evening as Porto defender Zaidu Sanusi and Sevilla forward Jerome Akor Adams arrived at the team’s training camp in South Africa.

Their arrival brings the squad to 20 players, following Tuesday's initial session which featured 18 participants.

Among those who began training on Tuesday were captain William Troost-Ekong, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Christantus Uche, Wilfred Ndidi, Bruno Onyemaechi, Terem Moffi, Benjamin Fredrick and Moses Simon.

Additional attendees included Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Frank Onyeka, Tolu Arokodare, Semi Ajayi, Stanley Nwabali, Adebayo Adeleye and Amas Obasogie.

Midfielder Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi, who plays in the United States, is expected to join the camp on Thursday.

Earlier, an injury to Felix Agu had already reduced the original 23-man roster to 22, while Russia-based winger Olakunle Olusegun remains absent.

This means head coach Eric Chelle may have just 21 players available for Friday's clash with Lesotho.

Chelle has made key adjustments to the squad following injuries to Bright Osayi-Samuel and Cyriel Dessers, including the call-ups of Zaidu Sanusi and Christantus Uche of Crystal Palace.

The Super Eagles will face Lesotho away on Friday, October 10, before returning home to host Benin in Uyo on Tuesday, October 14.

With only two qualifiers remaining, Nigeria sits third on 11 points, trailing Benin Republic and South Africa by three points each, making the upcoming matches decisive for their World Cup ambitions.
