'Stay concentrated' - Former Super Eagles goalkeeper warns Nwabali after horror show against Lesotho

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Dosu Joseph has urged Stanley Nwabali to stay focused amid criticism over his performance in Nigeria's 2-1 victory against Lesotho on Friday evening.

The Chippa United shot-stopper came under fire after a costly error that nearly denied Nigeria three crucial points in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Nwabali failed to properly deal with a corner kick, allowing Hlompho Kalake to pull one back for Lesotho in the final seven minutes.

He also caused a scare late in the game following a miscommunication with Hull City defender Semi Ajayi.

The goalkeeper has since faced a wave of criticism from fans, who accused him of being overconfident.

Reacting in a social media post, Dosu Joseph encouraged Nwabali to remain calm, focused, and committed, despite the backlash from supporters.

"My advice to you is to remain focused at this crucial time. Stay concentrated and committed," he revealed on X.

With the victory, Nigeria remain third in their group, behind Benin and South Africa, who occupy first and second positions respectively.

To qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, the Super Eagles must defeat Benin in their final game and hope South Africa fail to beat Rwanda.
