Bayern v Club Brugge: Son of ex-Super Eagles CB in travelling squad, Onyedika still on the mend
Published: October 21, 2025
Club Brugge forward Kaye Furo, who is the son of former Super Eagles central defender Iyenemi Furo, has been named in the squad to face Bayern Munich in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League clash at the Allianz Arena.
The 18-year-old joins 23 other players for the trip to Germany to take on the Bundesliga giants.
Furo, who has yet to feature in the group stage of the competition, played 22 minutes during the qualifying round in Brugge's emphatic 6-0 victory over Rangers.
However, Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika will not be part of the squad after sustaining a hamstring injury in the dramatic 5-5 draw against Westerlo on September 24 at the Jan Breydel Stadium.
The 24-year-old has missed four matches across all competitions, while club manager Nicky Hayen revealed that the Nigerian International will make his return to action in the middle of November.
Despite the manager's update, Onyedika was spotted taking part in light training during the week, sparking uncertainty over the exact timeline of his return.
The Nigerian midfielder is now aiming for an early comeback, with hopes of featuring in Club Brugge's next Champions League fixture against FC Barcelona on November 5.
Onyedika's injury also forced him out of Nigeria's crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin Republic in October.
Nigeria have since secured qualification for the CAF playoffs, joining DR Congo, Cameroon, and Gabon in the final round of qualifiers scheduled to begin on November 13.
With the Super Eagles eyeing a return to the World Cup stage, Onyedika will be racing against time to regain full fitness and boost Nigeria's midfield ahead of the decisive playoff fixtures.
