2025 Fifa U17 Women's World Cup: Four France players Flamingos must stop to stay in contention
Published: October 22, 2025
The Flamingos face a must-win battle against France in their second Group D match at the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Morocco 2025.
After a disappointing 4-1 defeat to Canada in their opener, theBankole Olowookere-led team sit at the bottom of the group with zero points.
A victory today could propel them back into contention for a knockout spot, as the top two teams and the four best third-placed sides advance.
To revive their hopes, the Flamingos must focus on containing four standout French players who pose significant threats.
First, forward Camille Marmillot, whose headed goal against Samoa highlighted her aerial ability and clinical finishing.
At just 16, Marmillot's movement off the ball and link-up play make her a constant danger in the box; Nigeria's defenders will need to mark her tightly to limit service from the wings.
Second, Thaïs Gallais, the dynamic attacker who netted twice in the opener – once with a header and another via a clever turn and finish.
Gallais's versatility and composure under pressure could exploit any gaps in the Flamingos' midfield; containing her requires disciplined pressing to disrupt her rhythm.
Third, midfielder Elena Moreira Da Rocha, who sealed the win over Samoa with a late strike.
Her vision, passing range, and ability to arrive late in the box add depth to France's attacks.
The Flamingos should assign a dedicated marker to shadow her and cut off distribution lines.
Finally, defender Ludivine Bardet, whose precise crosses set up two goals against Samoa.
While primarily a right-back, her overlapping runs and delivery turn defense into offense. Nigeria must close down her space on the flank to prevent those dangerous inswingers.
