Confirmed: Osimhen's hat-trick against Ajax Amsterdam costs Heitinga his job

Victor Osimhen’s sensational hat-trick for Galatasaray played a key role in Ajax Amsterdam’s decision to suspend head coach John Heitinga and assistant Marcel Keizer with immediate effect.

Heitinga, whose contract was due to run until June 2027, will no longer remain in his position.

Fred Grim has been named interim coach and will take charge of Ajax for their upcoming away match against Utrecht

Technical director Alex Kroes explained the decision to the club's official website saying: "We have given John time, but we believe it’s best for the club to appoint someone else to lead the team.

"We thank John and Marcel for their efforts and wish Fred the best of luck."

Osimhen was unstoppable at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Wednesday night, netting the three goals that secured Galatasaray’s 3-0 victory.

He opened the scoring in the 59th minute with a powerful header from a Leroy Sané cross, then doubled the lead from the penalty spot seven minutes later.

He completed his first-ever hat-trick in European competition in the 78th minute, again converting a penalty.

His three-goal haul brings Osimhen’s tally to six in three UEFA Champions League appearances this season, following strikes against Liverpool and Bodo/Glimt.

The Nigerian forward’s performance secured Galatasaray’s victory and coincided with Ajax’s continued struggles, leading to Heitinga’s dismissal.
