NFF breaks silence on controversial Rive Hotel choice following Iwobi's viral post

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has explained why the Super Eagles are camped at the Rive Hotel in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

The hotel came under attention after Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi shared images on social media showing the view from one of the hotel’s windows, which featured an old building.

The images sparked discussions online about the team’s accommodation and surroundings.

According to the NFF, the Rive Hotel was chosen because of its proximity to the team’s training facility and the stadium in Rabat.

The location ensures that players and officials have convenient access to training sessions and match preparations as they gear up for the crucial semifinal clash.

Full training sessions at the nearby facility are scheduled to begin soon, allowing the team to focus on their preparations for the playoff.

The Super Eagles will face Gabon in the semifinal, with the winner advancing to meet either DR Congo or Cameroon in the final.

A victory in the final will earn Nigeria a place in the intercontinental playoffs scheduled for March 2026, where a ticket to the FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico will be at stake.
