Nigeria 4-1 Gabon: Akor Adams, Ejuke and Osimhen on target in emphatic win after extra time

The Super Eagles defeated Gabon 4–1 after extra time to advance to the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African Play-offs in Rabat, Morocco.

The thrilling encounter showcased Nigeria's resilience and attacking brilliance as they overcame a stubborn Gabonese side to move a step closer to qualifying for the global showpiece.

Sevilla forward Akor Adams opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 78th minute after a sustained period of pressure.

His precise finish from inside the box gave the Super Eagles a well-deserved lead.

However, Gabon refused to back down, and their persistence paid off when Mario Lemina equalized in the 89th minute, forcing the game into extra time.

With the score locked at 1–1 after 90 minutes, Nigeria rediscovered their rhythm and took control in extra time.

Another Sevilla forward, Chidera Ejuke, restored the Super Eagles’ lead in the 97th minute with a composed strike past the Gabon goalkeeper.

Victor Osimhen then took center stage, extending Nigeria’s advantage with a superb finish in the 102nd minute before sealing the victory with his second goal of the match in the 110th.

Nigeria will now face the winner of the other semi-final between Cameroon and DR Congo in the play-off final on Sunday, November 16.

The winner will progress to the inter-confederation play-offs, keeping alive their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
