Published: May 20, 2012
Mikel Obi's Chelsea have won the UEFA Champions League after a nail biting 4-3 shootout victory over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in Munich.
Bayern had taken the lead in the 83rd minute through Thomas Muller. Five minutes later, with a bullet header, Ivorian legend Didier Drogba leveled for the Blues which sent the tie into extra time.
Extra time failed to separate the two teams. Luck smiled on Chelsea in the penalty shootout. Manuel Neuer kept out Mata's effort while Cech denied Ivica Olic and Schweinsteiger.
Chelsea's victory means Mikel Obi is now the third Nigerian to lift the Champions League, the world's most prestigious club competition, after Nwankwo Kanu and Finidi George.
