Exclusive: CHRISTIAN IFEANYI IYAM Prepares For South Africa Trials
Published: June 11, 2012
Former Sunshine Stars front-man Christian Ifeanyi Iyam's dreams of playing professional football outside the shores of Nigeria failed to materialize last February.
Iyam, 20, underwent tests with Norwegian first division club Hodd, but did not convince Coach Lars Nielsen at the end of his trial period.
The Nigerian youngster believes he was not offered a deal because he failed to prove his fitness at Hodd's training camp in Turkey.
Iyam told allnigeriasoccer.com: ''After I played my first test game, I got injured, and I could no longer give my best. At the end of my trial period, the club told me they can't offer me a contract. Hodd is a good team for any young professional to start his career, they encourage young footballers.''
''My agent has plans for me to undergo tests with a PSL team in South Africa. We are only waiting for an invitation letter from the club. So I am keeping my fitness by training on my own,'' adds Iyam.
Iyam had earlier been linked with Helsingborgs, Vålerenga, and Belgium clubs Gent and KV Mechelen.
