Exclusive: Croatian Club HNK Rijeka Move To Snap Up PAPA IDRIS
Published: June 24, 2012Home based Super Eagle central defender, Papa Idris, is to prove his fitness at Croatian club, HNK Rijeka, with a view to landing a contract.
Allnigeriasoccer.com has gathered that the highly rated Kano Pillars lynchpin is in the process of finalizing visa arrangements to enable him travel out.
Sporting director of Rijeka, Srecko Juricic, had disclosed that Idris and Croatian international, Drago Gabric, were the two major acquisitions they expect to complete their player plans for the forthcoming season. Gabric would go on to sign a three-year contract with the club this past Thursday as they wait on Idris.
Rijeka started pre season training on June 11 at their Stadion Kantrida before departing to Slovenia for a 10-day training camp last Monday.
Allnigeriasoccer.com contacts in Slovenia have revealed that if Idris is not able to get a visa early enough to join Rijeka in the town of Pohorje, where they are currently training, then he will join the squad after they return to Rijeka on Wednesday.
Left-foot ace Idris has been named in all of the Eagles squads since Stephen Keshi took over as the technical head of the national team and the former Kaduna United captain is seen as a top future prospect.
With the imminent move of the 22 year-old, there could be two Nigerians in the books of Rijeka next season as Eco Football Club's 16 year-old teenage prodigy, Theophilus Solomon, was given the green-light to be part of the 28-player group that started the club's preparation for the new season a fortnight ago.
Rijeka finished 12th in the MAXItv Croatian top division last season and the 2012/2013 programme kicks off on July 21st.
