ABDULWAHEED AFOLABI Absconds From Tavriya
Published: July 19, 2012
Abdulwaheed Afolabi has absconded from his Ukrainian club Tavriya, informs football.ua citing the official website of the Simferopol based outfit.
Oleg Luzhny, the head coach of Tavriya says the 20-year-old Nigerian striker refused to play last weekend's reserve team fixture against FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. Moreover, Afolabi has refused to train with the club since Saturday.
''This is the first ever encounter I am witnessing where the player leaves the team without permission. We reported about the incident to the management. Afolabi has a contract with Tavria. Once he breaks it, I think, on the part of the club should follow some penalties,'' said coach Oleg Luzhny.
Afolabi, who failed to make Augustine Eguavoen's final roster for the last African Under 23 championship in Morrocco, has reportedly agreed to join Metallurg Donetsk.
