Published: August 23, 2012
Through a statement via its official website, werder.de, Werder Bremen has announced the acquisition of the Nigeria international Joseph Akpala on a four - year contract.
Akpala, who played 166 games in Belgium's top flight for Charleroi and Club Brugge scoring 63 goals, says the move to Werder Bremen is a big step in his career.
Joseph Akpala told the official website: '' It is a great privilege to be allowed to play for Werder Bremen. This association is one of the big clubs in Germany. I want to build on the great Bremer times and get involved positively in the team.''
The former Bendel Insurance hero had been linked with a move to The Green - Whites two years ago. Akpala is delighted the transfer finally materialized.
''It is true that Werder Bremen was interested in me two years ago. But there is a perfect time for everything. This is exactly the case now. In these two years I have learned a lot. I have more experience, could develop myself playful, technically and mentally. This I could also bring my team back into the game overall. Therefore it is the right decision to move to Bremen. I am pleased that this is now coming true for me,'' Akpala adds.
He has been handed the number 19 jersey, last won by Sandro Wagner, by the club.
