Super-Sub SAVIOUR FIDELIS Nets Brace In Eagles Exhibition Win
Published: September 02, 2012
It proved to be an inspired substitution by coach Stephen Keshi in Saturday's 4 - 1 exhibition win by the National Team over Abuja Football College.
At the start of the second half, the opposition were threatening a comeback. Taraba United's Savior Fidelis was introduced by Keshi to add more firepower to his front-line. The 23 - year-old netted a brace in a space of ten minutes, scoring in the 65th and 75th minute.
Saviour Fidelis, who ended this past season as the highest goalscorer in Nigeria's second - tier, is optimistic that he can replicate his goalscoring form exhibited in the Eagles tune-up matches if he is invited to the National Team in future
''I feel great for these two goals I scored because I asked God for it a night before and He did not fail me. Football is all about goalscoring, my goals come from the Almighty.
''If I make the squad to Liberia, it would be befitting if I score on my international debut. I am honored to be in the Super Eagles camp. Even if I don't make the squad, the difference is clear from the trainings at club level. I am leaving with a lot of experience and I will come back stronger.
''Forever, I will be grateful to coach Stephen Keshi and Daniel Amokachi for giving me this opportunity,'' Fidelis, who is understood to be on the radar of Nigeria powerhouse Enyimba, told allnigeriasoccer.com
National Team boss Stephen Keshi has encomiums showered on him by Savior Fidelis for his management skills.
'' Keshi is like a father to everyone here, always encouraging us. He said I am a good striker but will help me improve even better by working on my weak areas. His coaching methods are excellent. No wonder he has been able to coach so many National Teams in Africa, especially here in Nigeria where he has all the tools he needs.''
