NWFL, NFF Broker Truce
Published: September 19, 2012After a crucial meeting involving the President of NFF, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, some members of NFF Executive, which included the General Secretary, Bar. Musa Amadu, Director of competitions, Dr. Sanusi and the representative of Women Football League led by its Chairperson, Chief (Mrs) Dili Onyedinma and Debo Adeoye, the vice chairman of NWFL, a truce was brokered between the two bodies.
Adeoye who spoke with newsmen after the meeting remarked that it was pathetic and heartbroken to note that lack of sufficient fund remains the major problem militating against execution of laudable projects proposed by the NFF to move Nigerian football forward.
The proprietor of NITO Queens stated further that it was indeed an unfortunate development to hear that cash crunch has been the bane of development of the nation's round leather game, which to him, remained the unifying force keeping over 150 million Nigerians together.
He however, called on all stakeholders to rally support for NFF under Maigari in its quest to return Nigeria to its top position in Africa football, saying the time has come for all to make it a collective responsibility for the nation's national teams to win some elusive FIFA organized world cup trophies.
He also expressed his delight that the development of women domestic football league which dominated the discussion is actually on the priority list of the NFF executive and coupled with the promotion of women junior teams, like U-15 and U-13.
He added that it was unbelievable that the picture that majority of football followers see outside was quite different from the reality, saying, "this of course caused a lot of problems between parent body (NFF) and its arms, which also necessitated the call for the urgent meetings".
"Honestly,I felt bad accusing the executive of NFF, especially Alhaji Maigari of not paying attention to women league after sighting documents on how much our national teams are consuming, especially the senior teams.
“Really, President and other members at the meeting, especially GS and Director of competition should be praised for displaying high level of maturity in explaining all the problems being encountered by the NFF on daily basis. For our football to compete nicely with other developed countries; NFF needs financial support of all and sundry including state governments and private individuals to complement what is coming from the federal government and few corporate individuals”, he noted
He also added that NFF’ Secretary-General re-affirmed the commitment of the body to transform and reposition women football in Nigeria.
Adeoye hinted that President has shown the attribute of a good leader and father of football in Nigeria by resolving the issues amicably and promised inclusion of women football in all programmes organized by the football authority.
To confirm his words, Adeyo said NFF boss has approved the inclusion of one of women football club chairmen, Mr. Emmanuel Zira to travel with the leader of delegation, Dili Onyedinma to Azerbajain for the U17 FIFA Women World Cup, starting on 22 September, 2012.
