Secondary School Soccer Tourney Commences In Ilesha

In a bid to develop the game of football at the very grassroots and reenact the euphoria of the old Principal Cup football competition that is being played in the very past among secondary school across Nigeria, a group Eni-Aponle Foundations has initiated a football tourney among secondary school in Ilesa East and west local government area of Osun State.Secondary School Socccer Tourney Commences In Ilesha
Draws for the tourney was held over the weekend inside Ilesa Grammar School where the 15 schools registered for the maiden competition was grouped into 4 and would played in a knockout basis.
The CEO of the foundation, Hon. Muyiwa Adeboye Ashaolu told allnigeriasoccer.com during the draws event that it is saddening to note that the much revered Principal Cup competition that every secondary school student always look forward to every year has gone into oblivion.
He also disclosed that football facilities in the four schools that would host the preliminaries games namely: Ilesa Grammar School, African Church Grammar School, Methodist High School and Ilesa Muslim Grammar School have been refurbished with provisions of new goal-posts and nets.
The acting general manager of Uniq FM Ilesa, the radio Station who partnered Eni-Aponle in organizing the soccer tourney, Mrs. Adebimpe Atofolaki while speaking during the draws urged that participants to exhibit spirit of fair play during the competition by being good ambassadors of their various schools.
She added that the organizer would not condone any unruly act from any student while warning school sports’ teachers not to field ineligible player saying the objectives behind the tourney is to use it to discover talents among bonafide secondary schools students.
The official opening ceremony of the soccer event has been scheduled for Monday 24th at the football pitch of Ilesa Grammar School where The Apostolic College, Ilesa will confront Hope Grammar School, Ilesa.
