AKEEM LATIFU Will Play In Norwegian Cup Final
Published: September 28, 2012
Next season, second-tier club Hødd could be one of Norway's representatives in the Europa League thanks to their 3 - 1 victory over SK Brann in the semi-final of the cup on Thursday.
Former Nigeria youth - teamer Akeem Latifu was part of Hodd's squad that created history in front of 6, 200 passionate fans at the Høddvoll Stadium, Ulsteinvik.
'' The whole town has gone gaga, everyone is happy and so am I. Who would have thought before the season started that we would be playing in the final of the cup. This is definitely the highlight of my career.
''It would have been nice if I had scored against Brann to celebrate the arrival of my babies. I had an opportunity to score in the first half but the ball narrowly missed target,'' Akeem Latifu told allnigeriasoccer.com in a telephone conversation on Thursday evening.
Hødd will now play Tromso, who upset Molde 2-1 in the other semi-final, in November's final. And the 22 - year - old Latifu believes it is the team's destiny to win the competition this year.
''It has been written in the stars before the start of this competition that we will win the cup, I would say. We took every game as they came, and now we are in the final. Haugesund and SK Brann are first division teams that we knocked out of the cup. This is going to give us a lot of confidence when we play Tromso. This is the final match, and we are going there with passion; to play our hearts out,'' says Latifu.
