Published: October 05, 2012
Two - time Nigeria champions Bendel Insurance are on the brink of bankruptcy, a top player who starred for the Benin based outfit last term has told allnigeriasoccer.com. Thus, the club's participation in the 2012 - 2013 season is shrouded in mystery.
''The management can not make it official yet, but I can tell you that the club is dead. We (the players, ed) don't care if they are no longer in existence because we played on empty stomachs throughout last season.
''Insurance owe me eight months wages totaling =N=240,000. Some players, depending on their length of stay with the club, are owed =N=400,00, others =N=640,000,'' the source informed allnigeriasoccer.com.
Bendel Insurance were relegated from Nigeria's top division at the end of the 2007 - 2008 season. And since then, the 'Pride of the Mid-West' have struggled with financial problems due to neglect by the Edo State Government.
