Brown Ideye in Dream Debut
Sochaux powered into the round-of-16 of the French Cup with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Le Mans, a second-half brace from new signing Brown Ideye sealing the deal while Saint-Etienne were taken to a penalty shoot-out before triumphing over CFA (D4) side Villefranche, also in the round of 32.
Sochaux 3-0 Le Mans.

Newly recruited Nigerian striker Brown Ideye made a huge impression on his home debut at the Stade Bonal, coming close to notching a hat-trick as Sochaux continued their strong start to 2010 by cruising into the round-of-16 of the French Cup.

Le Mans coach Arnaud Cormier had chosen to rest a host of key players ahead of the relegation-threatened club’s league trip to Lens this weekend and his B-team was clearly out of their depth against a Sochaux outfit who have made the French Cup a priority this season.

Nigerian U-23 international Ideye terrorized the Le Mans defence all night, starting in the 35th minute when he obtained a penalty that was coolly slotted home by Ryad Boudebouz to convert Sochaux’s early dominance.

But it was in the second half that the former Neuchatel Xamax goal machine hit his straps, blasting against the post with a superbly set-up shot on the turn (47’) before pouncing on Stéphane Dalmat’s inch-perfect cross to notch his first goal for les Lionceaux (54’).

He followed up with a powerful strike for his second (70’) before being subbed off in the 72nd minute to a standing ovation for a stunning performance that takes Sochaux a step closer to reliving their French Cup triumph of the 2006-2007 season.
