Fifa Rules In Favor Of ABDULWAHEED AFOLABI, Tavriya Banned From Signing Players
Published: November 07, 2012
World football governing body, Fifa has ruled in the case involving the Nigerian striker Abdulwaheed Afolabi.
It would be recalled that last August, the Olympic National Team invitee unilaterally terminated his contract with Tavriya, citing the clause in his contract which stipulates that he can terminate his deal at any point without recourse to the Ukrainian club.
Football.ua citing the official website of Tavriya reports that Fifa examined the dispute between Afolabi and Tavriya and subsequently prohibited Tavriya from signing players in the next two transfer windows.
Fifa also ruled that Tavriya should pay Afolabi an undisclosed compensation in the next 30 days, and imposed severe penalties on the Simferopol based outfit. And these penalties might be increased because apart from Afolabi, seven other players have filed complaints against the club.
Note that in the earlier ruling which is now discarded, the Ukrainian Disciplinary Committee disqualified Afolabi for six months and fined him $ 540,000.
All things being equal, Afolabi is expected to complete his switch to Kuban Krasnodar. The 20 - year - old signed a four year contract with the Russian Premier League outfit in August.
