SHOLA AMEOBI Targeting More Goals For Newcastle
Published: November 07, 2012
Super Eagles invitee Shola Ameobi is targeting more goals to add to his tally of 13 in tomorrow's UEFA Europa League encounter with Club Brugge of Belgium.
Only former England international and Newcastle hero Alan Shearer has scored more goals that Ameobi in European competitions.
''I’m proud of the record. To be mentioned in the same breath as Alan Shearer is a great honour, but I’m a long way off his record. I just need to keep plugging away. Hopefully, this won’t be this team’s only stint at Europe.
''I hope it can be a regular occurrence, with the squad the manager’s trying to build here. If that’s the case, I hope I can get somewhere near it,'' Ameobi told shieldsgazette.com.
Ameobi, 31, is competing for a spot in attack with brother Sammy, Xisco and Papiss Cisse.
