SAMMY SODJE: I Have Rejected Several Offers
Published: November 10, 2012
Super Eagles defender Sam Sodje has cleared the air on the reason why he is yet to join any club in the on going league season.
Speaking exclusively to allnigeriasoccer.com, the London born Warri bred rock solid goal scoring defender who last played for English League one side Notts County in the immediate past season disclosed that he has rejected a handful of clubs in top leagues as he decided to take time out to undergo a corrective knee surgery to sort out his troublesome knee once and for all.
" I have received many good offers from a handful of great clubs but my manager advised me to sort out my knee once and for all so I can bounce back unhindered whenever I do sign for any club of my choice," began the younger brother of Super Eagles 2002 World Cup defender Efe Sodje.
"As we speak, there are some lovely offers on the table, including one from a top Scottish side but I have had some issues with my knees which I have been postponing for sometime. I could have done it immediately the last season ended but i felt i could postpone it further but as the new season approached and clubs started coming for me, I did not feel 100% fit so my manager adviced me to sort it out once and for all and I shall undergo surgery any moment from now," he added.
"If not for this knee, I was already doing enough to be considered for a call up to the Super Eagles. Every time I have been called up, I have given a good account of myself and I am sure that with Stephen Keshi being a goal scoring defender in his playing days just like me, he will like my style of play and give me a chance to fight for a shirt. When he does that he will not regret because I will contribute in making the team stronger.''
