Exclusive - Agent: Big Arab Country Has Approached Michael Olaitan To Play For National Team
Published: January 05, 2013
In this interview, Prosport International Head of Global Football, Paschalis Tountouris, who represents 19 - year - old Michael Olaitan, talks to allnigeriasoccer.com about reports linking his client with a switch to a big team in January and the chances of the Veria midfielder representing Nigeria at international level.
Your client Michael Olaitan is being linked with Olympiakos, PAOK and Valenciennes in the winter transfer market. Nevertheless, I know some other teams are watching him. So which club is he signing for in January or in the summer?
Paschalis Tountouris: ''Michael has impressed several clubs in Europe with his performances and his potential. There are several offers that we are currently dealing with. I believe though that a transfer is more probable in the summer. He will choose to sign for a team which will participate in the European competitions (Champions League or Europa League) next season. Michael wishes to stay and help his current team until the end of the season.''
Why do you think a 19- year- old is generating so much interest in the market, in only his second full season as a professional?
Paschalis Tountouris:''Michael is an exceptional talent. He has unique skills and very good technical qualities. He is very quick, uses equally well both feet, is a good finisher from medium and long range and very importantly he is a great team player. He has a very high work rate and professional attitude. Surely, if he continues to work hard, he has got the potential to reach the top.''
What really went wrong? I understand Olaitan did not arrive Greece until Thursday evening, January 3rd. Why was he held back in Nigeria?
Paschalis Tountouris: ''He delayed because there were some administrative issues with his work permit that needed to be sorted out. On Thursday evening he had a warm welcome from his teammates, coach and club's officials.''
On the back of his fine displays for Veria, is there contact between Olaitan and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation?
Paschalis Tountouris: ''Not yet. Additionally, we are approached by a very big Arab country in order for him to play for their National Team. I must admit that they are putting Michael under enormous pressure to convince him to join them and offering to him a lot of benefits. They know that he is still uncapped for the Super Eagles and they hope they can get him. Michael though, is a proud Nigerian and wishes that soon he can become a member of the Super Eagles.''
