Chibuzor Okonkwo Sixth Time Unlucky, Fails Test With Elazigspor
Published: January 08, 2013
Once again, Chibuzor Okonkwo's dream of taking his trade abroad is now an illusion. Last week, the Nigeria full back was in Turkey to test with Super League outfit Elazığspor. Unfortunately, he failed to impress coach Yılmaz Vural and has been sent home without a contract.
Influential Turkish agent Mustafa Sezgin facilitated Okonkwo's trial at Elazig. He has hinted that the Beijing Olympic silver medalist is lacking match fitness.
'' Okonkwo did not come to Turkey ready. He has added some kilograms. The coach (Yilmaz Vural, ed) said the team does not have time to wait for him to regain fitness. I don't think I have another opening for him in Turkey,'' Sezgin, the agent of Uche Kalu, told allnigeriasoccer.com.
This is the sixth time Okonkwo has not been offered a contract by a foreign club. In the past, he trained with Vitesse Arnhem (Holland) FC Kryvbas(Ukraine), Rostov (Russia), Reading (England) and Vålerenga (Norway), but went home empty handed without a contract.
