Russian Football Expert, Viktor Bondarenko Writes Off Zambia
Published: January 20, 2013
Russian football expert Viktor Bondarenko has commented on the likely teams to win the African Cup of Nations which began in South Africa on Saturday.
''First of all, no doubt Ivory Coast. The team has experienced players that are very efficient led by Drogba. However, I must say that in the test matches, which I had a chance to look, there were bright and fresh young talented footballers from Ghana. Ghana - a serious competitor for Côte d'Ivoire. Finally, the national team of South Africa. For me, there are three favorites. However, there remains the north of Africa, little is known about the teams, but they always have good preparations,'' the former Orlando Pirates manager told Sport-Express.
Viktor Bondarenko has highlighted that Zambia, who are in the same group with Nigeria, might not defend the trophy they won in the last edition.
''Zambia play well, but suffered one defeat after another in friendly matches. I think the team has disabilities despite winning the tournament last year. In the final two matches, profited from missed penalties. In the semi - Ghanaian Gyan, in the final - Drogba,'' he said.
