Honours Even In Battle Of Nelspruit
Published: January 25, 2013
In their second group game at the ongoing African Nations Cup on Friday in Nelspruit, defending champions Zambia forced the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a 1 - 1 draw.
Nigeria opened the scoring after 57 minutes, thanks to Spartak Moscow's Emmanuel Emenike, who is now the top scorer in the tournament with two goals in as many games.
Just as they failed to hold on to their slim lead in the penultimate match against Burkina Faso, the Zambians got an equalizer from the penalty spot in the 85th minute through goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene.
The penalty was a contentious decision by the referee after he ruled that Eddy Onazi had fouled Emmanuel Mayuka in the penalty area. However, television replays suggested otherwise.
In the 26th minute of the first half, midfielder John Obi Mikel uncharacteristically missed from the spot.
Burkina Faso will trade tackles with Ethiopia, also in Nelspruit, in Friday's other game in Group C.
