Exclusive: Rizespor Terminate Uche Kalu's Contract
Published: February 04, 2013Rizespor have mutually parted company with the Nigeria internationalist Uche Kalu, five months after he joined the Turkish club from Nigeria heavyweights Enyimba of Aba.
It would be recalled that 25 - year - old Kalu was one of the candidates to make the Super Eagles 23 - man African Nations Cup roster. But the striker injured his groin while training with the Nigeria selection in Faro, Portugal in the month of January.
In a chat with this portal, influential Turkish agent Mustafa Sezgin, who manages Uche Kalu, has clarified the position of his client.
Sezgin told allnigeriasoccer.com: ''It is understandable Rizespor cancelled Uche's contract because he returned injured from Portugal. Doctors say he will be out of action for at least four months. The regulation of the Turkish second - tier requires clubs to have a maximum of three foreign players. And to free a place for a non - EU player, they had to cancel his contract.''
There could be light at the end of the tunnel for the Super Eagle as there is a gentleman's agreement between the parties which stipulates that Kalu Uche's contract will be purchased outright from Enyimba at the end of the 2012 - 2013 campaign when his loan deal expires.
''Kalu Uche is well respected by the club.We only helped them to achieve their objective of signing another foreigner. Next season, with the arrangement in place, he'll be a player of the club again. With the help of the club, Kalu Uche is in Istanbul undergoing rehabilitation in one of the best hospitals,'' says Mustafa Sezgin.
Before Uche Kalu's injury setback, he had scored 9 remarkable goals in 12 matches in the Turkish First League.
