Super Eagles, Officials Rewarded Handsomely By President Jonathan
Published: February 13, 2013
Players and officials of the National Team have been rewarded by sports loving President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan for winning the African Cup of Nations.
Speaking at a ceremony to welcome the victorious team from South Africa, President Jonathan announced a cash donation of 10 million Naira to coach Stephen Keshi while the players and assistant coaches will receive the sum of 5 million Naira each.
National awards were bestowed on the coaches and players. Just like what happened in 1980 when the Eagles won their first Nations Cup trophy, the current players are now members of the Order of the Niger(MON). Keshi and his assistants were recipients of Commander of the Order of the Niger(CON) and Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) respectively.
MTNFootball.com quoted the president as saying: ''We thank you for making us proud, we gathered here to celebrate you our galant Eagles. It was a well deserved victory, you deserved all the accolades and praise, your victory reminds us that dreams can actually come true.''
In addition to the awards and cash donations, each member of the Super Eagles received a plot of land in Abuja.
