Obafemi Martins To Trouser 1.6 Billion Naira In Seattle Sounders Deal
Published: February 27, 2013
Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins, currently playing for Levante in the Spanish championship, is attracting sound interest from the MLS.
Gianluca di Marzio, widely regarded as Italy's number one voice on the transfer market, writes on his blog Gianlucadimarzio.it that Martins is close to linking up with Seattle Sounders.
''There's a very interesting proposal from Seattle, is an offer that can satisfy my needs and those of the club.
''I want to leave Levante because I am not happy, I was promised something that is not currently met. I arrived on a free transfer, so the club will make a good profit through my sale,'' says Martins to Cadena Ser.
It was reported by Gianluca di Marzio that Martins' arrival at Seattle Sounders will reduce the bank balance of the MLS club by around ten million euros.
Note that Martins has a buy - out clause of three million euros. Logically, it means the remaining seven million euros (=N=1.4 billion) is for his wages.
In addition, if the transfer materializes, Levante would pay Martins one million euros (=N=0.2 billion) being his share of the transfer fee remitted by Seattle Sounders.
The ex FC Ebedei starlet will move to the United States with pregnant girlfriend and Mario Balotelli's sister Abigail.
