According to michezoafrika.com, Kenya’s national soccer team Harambee Stars departs Nairobi on Wednesday morning for Nigeria ahead of their weekend FIFA 2014 world Cup qualifier against the African Champions.
Newly appointed coach Adel Amrouche remains optimistic that the Stars will put up a strong fight against the hosts, “We know they are the African champions but this is not intimidating us” he said.
The team will leave JKIA in Nairobi at 8:00am and is expected in Nigerian capital by midday.
According to a statement by the Kenyan Federation, “The Nigeria F.A will charter a plane to fly the Stars from Lagos upon arrival since there are no commercial flights from the capital city to Calabar and will be staying at the Channel View Hote. It takes 12 hours by road a distance of 850km but its only 1hr by air from the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos to Calabar Airport.”
Football Kenya Federation also announced that they are working closely with the Kenyan High Commission in Nigeria and the 1st Secretary Mr. Antony Masinde to ensure that Stars feel at home.
This includes mobilizing Kenyans living in Calabar to cheer the stars.
