Ranti Martins Delighted To Win IFA Shield For Prayag United
Published: March 21, 2013
Ranti Martins could not hide his happiness after he scored the winning goal which handed Prayag United the Indian FA Shield on Wednesday.
The 26 - year - old striker etched his name in Prayag United folklore after finding target in the 80th minute in the 1-0 victory over East Bengal in the final of Asia's oldest club competition.
''I felt happy scoring the match winner which gave us the IFA Shield trophy. I am dedicating this win to God, family and friends, who always supported me.
''After winning so many trophies with Dempo where I spent eight seasons, I and my family are really happy to win a trophy with my new team,'' says Martins to allnigeriasoccer.com.
Statistically, Martins is the most feared striker playing in the I-League, averaging a goal in every game after 20 matches played.
It is on the back of that performance that the Prayag United chiefs want to extend his contract which expires at the end of the season.
''They have already approached me to stay for another season, but let us see how things work out,'' Martins said.
Prayag United are placed fifth on the I-League table, 11 points behind leaders Churchill Brothers, who have played a game less.
