'Super' Eaglets Book Final Place In Style
Published: April 24, 2013
On Wednesday evening, nailed on pre-tournament favorites, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria booked their place in the final of the CAF Under 17 championship after their 4 -2 victory in the second semi - final at the expense of Tunisia.
Goals from Kelechi Iheanacho (2nd minute), Yahaya Umar (11th min) Isaac Success (21st min) gave Nigeria a three - goal cushion.
But the brave Tunisians did not throw in the towel and pulled two goals back through Firas Ben Larbi and Hajj Hassan.
Tunisia could have gone for the jugular in the second half but they paid the price for poor defending.
Thanks to another strike from Yahaya Umar after 58 minutes, the Golden Eaglets led 4 - 2. And the scoreline remained the same until the referee blew the final whistle.
The right to be called Africa's best Under 17 team will be known in the tournament's final game on Saturday when Nigeria play Ivory Coast, who defeated Morocco in the other semi final decided on Tuesday.
