Bayer Leverkusen's Sidney Sam Denies Nigeria!
Published: May 28, 2013
Bayer Leverkusen's Sidney Sam has sensationally denied reports that he wanted to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Sam, 25, has been named by Germany gaffer Joachim Loew in an experimental squad which travels to North America for exhibition matches against United States and Ecuador this summer.
German newspaper Bild quoted Sam as saying: ''2014 is still far away but for me it is only Germany that counts. We don't have to speak about Nigeria.
"I never really thought about Nigeria and I do not know who invented that.
"I always wanted to play for Germany and I know I was on the coaches' list. A pity, I was often injured. But now I am here and want to prove my strengths.''
It should be noted that Sidney Sam can still play for the Super Eagles unless he is capped officially by the Germans.
