Relieved Abduwaheed Afolabi Happy To Join Gabala
Published: June 19, 2013
Earlier this week, it was announced that the Nigeria youth - international had signed a one - year contract with the Azeri Premier League club.
Afolabi last played for FC Kuban Krasnodar in Russia, but left there under a cloud in March after he was banished to the youth team despite signing a first team contract.
''I am happy to sign this contract with Gabala . I hope to do well with this team and target trophies when the championship resumes.
''There were offers for me to continue my career with clubs in Ukraine and Russia but I think it is better for me to leave that environment for a new destination.
''I joined Gabala as a free agent. The problems I had with Kuban were resolved before I signed for Gabala,'' Abdulwaheed Afolabi told allnigeriasoccer.com in a telephone conversation.
The striker, who previously represented Niger Tornadoes and Tavriya, played only 2 first team games for Kuban before both parties ended their collaboration.
