Published: September 05, 2014
Cypriot club Nikos & Socratis Erimis have secured the signature of former Charlton Athletic youth - teamer John Oyekunle, few days after the end of the summer transfer market.
The 21 - year - old put pen to paper on a one - year contract on deadline day, but the paperwork was only completed two days ago.
“I wasn’t getting first team opportunities (at Boreham Wood) I thought I deserved.but in all fairness to them I was still young,” John Oyekunle told allnigeriasoccer.com.
On and off the pitch, the Anglo - Nigerian has struck a strong bond with Emmanuel Adewole, who joined Nikos & Socratis Erimis from Raja Marsa Matr, Egypt on deadline day.
“I chose to join Nikos & Socratis Erimis because my good friend Emmanuel told me that the manager of the club likes to work with good young players, and develop them, so that is why I came to develop my game.
“The difference between England and Cyprus is of course the weather. It takes some time to adjust, and in England the game is more physical,” he added.
John Oyekunle has not been handed an official shirt for the season, though he has said that he would love to wear the number 93 jersey, the year he was born.
