Rohr On Losses In Friendlies: Nigerians Told Super Eagles They Will Win World Cup
Published: June 11, 2018Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has reacted to the national team's recent losses in friendly matches, saying that the players will become more humble after supporters told them at their training camp in Nigeria that they will win the World Cup.
The Super Eagles were brought down to earth following losses to England and Czech Republic in friendly matches and could only manage a 1-1 draw with Democratic Republic of Congo in front of their fans in Port Harcourt.
''We always want to win, but this situation means that everybody will learn more and listen to the coach when you lose games than when you win,'' Rohr told omasports.com.
''When you win, the players begin to believe they are the best sometimes. We spent two days in Nigeria, and the players kept hearing that they are the world champions and the best, you are the winning team.
''But when you lose games like these, even though, they are friendly games, but we don’t like to lose. And we have to work more, and the right side of this thing is that we work much more and the humility is returning.
''Like I said earlier, our philosophy is to be humble, to work hard to have good solidarity and this is an excellent moment to find this quality again.''
Nigeria will kickoff their World Cup campaign against Croatia on Saturday, June 16, before facing Iceland (June 22) and Argentina (June 26).
