Super Eagles Target Akinyemi Returns To Ventspils As Spartak Moscow, Dynamo Kiev Join Race
Published: August 13, 2018According to information gathered by allnigeriasoccer.com editorial staff, Super Eagles target Akinyemi Adeleke is set to return to Ventspils today, Monday for contract talks with the Latvian club.
The recently-turned 20-year-old frontman has had a remarkable season with Ventspils, scoring 20 goals in all competitions, including seven in the Europa League, but has not featured for the club since his appearance against Bordeaux due to personal reasons everyone is aware of.
To resolve the impasse, the Latvian Football Federation have set up a meeting that will take place this afternoon between Akinyemi's representative and Ventspils.
Ventspils have offered the Nigerian a new contract, but the grey area in the offer tabled by the club is that a release clause has been omitted, meaning Ventspils can decide to sell him for an outrageous sum, above his market value.
The powers that be at Ventspils have claimed that Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow and Ukrainian powerhouse FC Dynamo Kyiv have approached them about signing Akinyemi.
Ventspils face Liepāja in the Latvian Virsliga on Monday afternoon but Akinyemi is unlikely to feature in that game as he has already made up his mind to leave the club.
Bordeaux, Trabzonspor, Red Star Belgrade, Waasland-Beveren, Dukla Pragu, IK Start, Helsingborgs IF and Brondby are among the teams credited with an interest in the striker.
