Rohr & Onazi Should Bury The Hatchet; Mikel's Goal; Success Needs To Score More : 4 Talking Points From Nigeria's Players Performances
Nigerian players were in action for their clubs across the world last weekend and as the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa beckons, we take a look at some of the major issues arising from their performances.

1. Mikel's Tianjin Teda Goal, Super Eagles Shut Out

John Mikel Obi scored his first league in six months for Chinese Super League side Tiajin Teda in a 4-2 defeat to Shanghai Shenhua  on Sunday. He had not scored since April 14 against Guangzhou R&F.

The irregular goal scoring form is akin to his stint at Chelsea but with his return to fitness after a time out no thanks to injury Nigerians expected him to be part of the Super Eagles side to play South Africa in November.

That is not the case as the Nigeria Football Federation on Monday released the 23 man squad to prosecute the game without inspirational captain Obi on the list.

The situation now raises questions about the future of the player  who is expected to play on for his country at least until the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon.

Some are hoping that the sad incident of his father's kidnap during the 2018 World Cup has not had an influence on his availability. Although nobody can begrudge him if that's the case.

2. Isaac Success Seeks To Break The  Strikers Duopoly At Watford; Super Eagles' Too

Watford were back to winning ways on Saturday as they defeated Huddersfield Town 3-0 at the Vicarage Road with Super Eagles striker Isaac Success on target for the third goal of the match.

Success needs to score more if he hopes to break the Troy Deeney, Andre Gray duopoly in Watford's attack.

The strike was his fourth in 32 games for the Hornets since 2016, not a great return to consign at least Gray to the bench on a regular basis. Deeney is the captain of the team and plays regularly, he only missed the weekend's game through injury.

Success faces a similar fight for the Nigerian national team as Odion Ighalo is the first choice striker and leading scorer in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers.

He needs to produce the goals on a consistent basis to force his way to the starting line ups for club and country when given the opportunity.

3.Eagles Will Miss Ndidi Versus South Africa, Onazi Shines For Trabzonspor, Omission  For South Africa Clash Wrong

Wilfred Ndidi was one of the best Leicester players on Saturday and capped off his performance with the equalising goal in a 1-1 draw against West Ham United at the King Power Stadium.

Sadly the outcome of the match was overshadowed by the demise of the club owner and five others after the crash of the helicopter they had boarded.

Gernot Rohrwill not have the services of Ndidi in the South Africa game due to his yellow card against Libya which raises questions about his decision not to extend invitation to Ogenyi Onazi who was also in goal scoring form last weekend in the Turkish Super Lig.

There seems to be an issue between Rohr and Onazi which apparently started during the World Cup in Russia.

For whatever it is worth, both men need to bury their hatchets in the best interest of Nigerian football.

4. NFF Should Start Lookman Talks At Least

There has been talk of the Nigeria Football Federation considering Everton's Ademola Lookman for the Nigerian national team at the expense of England.

Although the NFF have said the youngster needs to show some more desire to represent Nigeria and not England, they (NFF) should start the whole process of the player switching allegiance -albeit not to be a media affair like the Tammy Abraham debacle.

Lookman who was in action against Manchester United over the weekend is talented although not the best out there linked with committing his international future with Nigeria.

The Nigerian football chiefs should however walk the talk and convince other players that are under the international radar that they would have a fabulous time playing for Nigeria.

Lookman will most certainly not be part of the Three Lions of England's party for the UEFA Nations League in November. This is the perfect time for both parties to talk.

Tammy Abraham could also be in the picture as his continued wait for a senior England cap at competitive games may remain a pipe dream. He is a massive talent, one that will make the Nigerian team even stronger.
